Wayne Initiative for School Health ( WISH) is a school based health clinic started to address five specific health problems: asthma, mental heath, lack of well care/ dental care, teen pregnancy and attention deficit disorders. WISH centers provide medical evaluations, diagnosis of minor injuries and illnesses, updates on immunizations, and counseling. This comprehensive healthcare is available to both uninsured and insured children. WISH is beneficial in terms of providing easy access for children to a medical provider.
WISH centers are based in four middle schools: Goldsboro Middle, Mt.Olive Middle, Brogden Middle and Dillard Middle. WISH is also available in two high schools: Goldsboro High School and Southern Wayne High School
- The rate of emergency room visits and number of school suspensions have decline in schools with WISH centers.
- Each center has a mid-level provider (Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner) and full time Registered Nurse.
- The goal is to help students succeed in school by promoting healthy lifestyles and providing comprehensive health care.
